A wine box in crackle technique

Crackle medium is a very practical media which helps you give old fashioned note to new things. You can decorate ordinary plastic flower pots, vases, frames... How it is done we will show you with a wine box.

You will need:
- an ordinary wooden wine box
- acrylic paint in dark and vanilla shade
- crackle medium
- patina in brown shade
- glue for napkin technique
- a napkin with interesting motif
- a brush

1 First, paint the box in dark acryl. It does not have to be very neat since layer will be seen only in cracks. Leave it to dry well.

2 Using harder brush spread the crackle medium, but always in one direction. Leave it to dry well (you can feel it with your finger whether it is stll sticky).

3 Now add vanilla acrylic paint. You can choose other shades as well, but to get a good effect the upper layer must be lighter than the surface and matt paint. Spread the light acrylic in one direction too. Cracks will soon appear where the polish was spread. The size of cracks depends on length and direction of the brush strokes.

4 Using decoupage technique additionally decorate the box. Choose a nice motif, not too big or too wide - it does not look good over the cracks.

5 Glue the motif using the glue for napkin technique. Glue the rest of the box as well since the glue contains polish which will additionally harden and protect the crackle effect.

6 Finally, you could additionally cover the whole box with patina to give it a more worn look.
Immerse a piece of soft cloth in the patina and spread it all over the box. Rub it with the cloth until you are satisfied with the patina effect.
