Oriental bookmark

Make a bookmark, Japanese style!

Material and tools:

A napkin or softpaper with Japanese motifs, a wooden bead with a wide hole, cardboard (red and white), red cotton cord or silk thread, a decorative ribbon, metal leaves, Metallic Effect glue for metal leaves.

Instructions:

1 Cut the white cardboard in the shape of a bookmark. Cut out the chosen motifs and glue them onto the white cardboard. Wrap the gold decorative ribbon along the middle and glue it.

2 Use the ink pad to line the edge.

3 Cut the red base a few mm bigger than the bookmark. Glue the decorated bookmark on the base. Cut a hole for the cord on the top.

4 Spread the glue for gold metal leaves on the napkin edge. Leave it to dry (it becomes transparent).

5 Place the golden leaves carefully onto the glue. Smooth with fingers.

6 Use a soft brush to remove the extra. The metal leaves will remain on the places with glue.

7 Cut the cord in 20 cm long pieces. Thread them through a wooden bead.

8 Fold the threads over the bead. Add a drop of glue and fix them.

9 Wrap the bead and thread with a gold ribbon. Thread and glue a thicker cord through the bead.

10 Thread the loose end of the cord through the hole on the bookmark, push it and glue it in the middle of the bead.
